Terms of Use

Using ArboraNotes

ArboraNotes is a note taking and personal knowledge management application. You may use ArboraNotes for lawful personal or professional note taking, organization, writing, sharing, and publishing.

Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for your account, password, devices, backups, note exports, shared content, and anything you upload or publish. Do not use ArboraNotes for unlawful, abusive, harmful, infringing, or security-breaking activity.

Backups, Sync, and Data Loss

We make a best-effort attempt to keep ArboraNotes functional, sync data reliably, and maintain reasonable operational backups. Even so, software, networks, storage systems, devices, and hosting providers can fail. ArboraNotes is provided without a guarantee that data will never be lost, corrupted, delayed, or unavailable.

You should back up important notes frequently using the export and backup tools available to you. To the fullest extent allowed by law, ArboraNotes and its developer are not responsible for lost notes, lost attachments, interrupted access, business losses, or other damages caused by data loss, sync issues, user error, forgotten passwords, account access problems, service interruptions, or third-party provider failures.

End-to-End Encryption and Password Recovery

ArboraNotes encrypts note contents end-to-end on your device using your password. We do not have the ability to read encrypted note contents, and we do not have a backdoor to decrypt them.

Because of this, if you forget your password or lose access to the encryption key needed to decrypt your notes, we cannot recover those encrypted note contents for you. Resetting account access does not mean encrypted notes can be decrypted.

Storage and Upload Limits

Attachment and image storage defaults to 1 GB per user. Individual file uploads are limited to 49 MB per file. We may adjust limits, reject uploads, or remove excessive, abusive, unlawful, or technically harmful content to protect the service.

Sharing and Publishing

If you share notes with other users or publish notes publicly, you are responsible for what you choose to share and who can access it. Shared or published metadata may be visible to recipients, visitors, or service systems needed to operate sharing.

Changes and Availability

ArboraNotes is developed by a small independent developer and may change over time. We may add, remove, pause, limit, or modify features as needed. We may also suspend or terminate access for abuse, security risk, nonpayment, unlawful use, or activity that harms the service or other users.

No Warranty

ArboraNotes is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, perfectly secure, or suitable for every purpose.

Privacy Policy

Information We Collect

We collect the information needed to operate ArboraNotes, such as account details, email address, login and security records, billing status if applicable, support messages, feature requests, usage diagnostics, and service logs.

Although note contents are encrypted end-to-end, some metadata may be visible to us so the service can function. This may include note titles, folder names, tag names, names of notes shared with users, sharing settings, timestamps, storage usage, attachment metadata, and similar operational information.

Information We Cannot See

We cannot view the encrypted body contents of your notes. Those contents are encrypted on your end using your password, and we do not have the ability to decrypt or restore them if you lose the necessary password or key.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to run the service, authenticate accounts, provide sync, manage storage, process payments, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, improve reliability, understand feature demand, and communicate important product or account updates.

Third-Party Providers

ArboraNotes may rely on third-party providers for hosting, forms, email, analytics, authentication, storage, payments, logging, and infrastructure. These providers may process limited information as needed to provide their services. We do not sell your note contents or use them for advertising.

Support Requests and Forms

If you submit a feature request or contact form, the submitted email address and message are not end-to-end encrypted note data. They may be processed by the form provider and reviewed so we can understand feedback and respond when appropriate.

Retention and Deletion

We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to operate ArboraNotes, comply with obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, and improve the product. You may ask us to delete account data, but encrypted note recovery may not be possible once data, passwords, or keys are removed or lost.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards for a small service, including end-to-end encryption for note contents. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, and you should use a strong unique password and keep independent backups.

Children

ArboraNotes is not intended for children under 13. Do not use ArboraNotes if you are under 13.
